MilkHaven FAQ

It’s normal to have questions.

Especially when it comes to storing something as important as your milk. Here are the answers mothers ask us most, about materials, storage, care, and coverage.

Materials & Safety

What is MilkHaven made from?

MilkHaven is made from European food grade silicone and is free from BPA, phthalates, PVC, lead, and fillers. It’s designed for safe, repeated use with breast milk.

What is silicone made from?

Silicone is a man made material derived from silicon (a natural element found in sand) combined with oxygen and small amounts of carbon and hydrogen. It has a different structure than traditional plastics, which makes it more stable and heat resistant, and widely used in baby and food products.

Is MilkHaven safe for breast milk nutrients?

Yes. Silicone is a stable material that remains durable across refrigeration, freezing, thawing, and warming temperatures. When used as intended, it does not leach chemicals into stored milk and is designed to help preserve the quality of breast milk throughout the storage process.

Is MilkHaven reusable?

Yes. MilkHaven is fully reusable and designed for long term use, often across an entire breastfeeding journey, multiple children, and beyond milk storage.

Storage & Use

Can MilkHaven be refrigerated, frozen, thawed, and warmed?

Yes. MilkHaven is designed for refrigerator and freezer storage and remains durable and flexible at cold temperatures. Frozen milk can be thawed in the refrigerator or warmed using standard breastmilk warming methods. The silicone material is designed to withstand repeated freezing, thawing, washing, and everyday use.

Can MilkHaven be used for freshly expressed milk?

Yes. MilkHaven can be used for freshly expressed, chilled, or frozen breast milk. Always follow current milk storage guidelines for timing and handling.

How much milk does MilkHaven hold?

Each MilkHaven tube holds 2 ounces of breast milk, with 1 ounce and 2 ounce markings clearly labeled for easy portioning. Each MilkHaven box includes 20 tubes, providing a total storage capacity of 40 ounces per box in a modular, stackable format. Additional capacity is achieved by stacking multiple MilkHaven boxes as needed.

Washing, Care & Labeling

How do I wash and care for MilkHaven?

For everyday use, we recommend hand washing with warm water and non fragranced dish soap using the included bottle brush or soft brush. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry. MilkHaven is dishwasher safe, though frequent dishwasher use may shorten the lifespan of any silicone product.

Can I sterilize MilkHaven?

Yes. MilkHaven can be briefly boiled or steam sterilized. Avoid harsh chemical sterilants or scented cleaning products.

Can I write the date and time on MilkHaven?

Yes. MilkHaven’s silicone tubes can be labeled directly using an oil based paint pen, making it easy to track dates and feeding information. The included paint pen is freezer friendly, resists smudging from condensation, and washes off easily with soap and water when you’re ready to reuse the tube. A tested paint pen is included with every MilkHaven kit.

Availability & Coverage

Is MilkHaven covered by insurance or HSA/FSA?

MilkHaven has partnered with Flex to simplify HSA/FSA reimbursement. Eligible customers can complete a brief online consultation to receive a Letter of Medical Necessity, then submit their purchase for reimbursement through their HSA/FSA provider.
